BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

The aim / kaupapa of the behaviour management programme at Tinopai School is to have an atmosphere throughout the school in which our tamariki feel cared for, secure and happy, and have the maximum opportunity to learn. This kaupapa also supports our kaiako, through maximising their opportunity to teach and facilitate learning. Positively teaching and praising the Tinopai School Values, Mana (respect), Aroha (compassion), Pono (integrity) we aim to achieve our school's vision.

Students who are critical, creative thinkers, lifelong learners with proud strong connections to their

whānau and whenua.

We are committed to encouraging these, to ensure that they are a reality for our children. We are confident that our behaviour management plan will teach our tamariki to take responsibility for their actions and make Tinopai School a safe, caring, secure and happy learning environment. We ask all families to support the school in our efforts to ensure the programme succeeds. To achieve  this goal, our kaiako have established a whole school approach to rewarding positive behaviour and achievement.

To achieve our school vision and values, in relation to behaviour management, our kaiako, with the support of parents, whānau and wider community will:

  • Teach and model the School Values

  • Acknowledge the positive behaviours shown at school

  • Provide consistent consequences for inappropriate behaviours

  • Ensure all tamariki feel safe within their learning environment

  • Ensure all tamariki know what is expected of them

Positive Reinforcement may be in the form of:

  • Praise and personal acknowledgements and affirmations

  • Assembly Certificates for learning and progress

  • MAP Value Awards (Assembly)

  • MAP rewards points system (earning individual points for agreed rewards)

  • The occasional edible treat

Consequences for inappropriate behaviours:

  • Reminder of appropriate behaviour x 2

  • Inappropriate behaviour continues: reflection plan to be filled in, discussed and sent home and returned to school signed by parent / whānau

  • Not using learning time wisely - to complete work in own time

  • Continuous inappropriate behaviour - parents / whānau contacted and meet with kaiako / Principal to discuss

  • For a very serious consequence: a STAND DOWN.

Consequences for severe inappropriate behaviour:

Should a child exhibit the following behaviours: this will be dealt with by the Principal and parents contacted

  • All forms of violence

  • Bullying (repeated behaviour towards another child or children)

  • Abusive language

  • Graffiti
